About Shopify

For new businesses wanting an easy e-commerce website there are only two big players – Shopify provides drag and drop simplicity, proven templates and an easy to use back-end which makes running a digital store a breeze. The other is WordPress running WooCommerce – and while it’s getting better it’s more suited to people with a degree of coding experience.

It’s this ease of use and an ability to add extra modules for some truly enhanced function that has seen Shopify create a growing army of kitchen-table millionaires, running automated e-commerce sites coupled up with overseas dropshippers (suppliers who will send an item to your customer for you). So whether you have a small fashion brand, are a keen crafter – or want to sell high markup Chinese goods without ever having to handle a single product, Shopify has an out-the-box solution at between $29 and $299/mo.

From the Shopify website:

Build your business: You’ve got the will. We’ve got the way.

We focus on making commerce better for everyone, so businesses can focus on what they do best: building and selling their products. Today, merchants use our platform to manage every aspect of their business — from products to orders to customers, selling online, in retail stores, and on the go.

I don’t know what I’d have done without Shopify after being let down by a web designer who said he’d be finished and never was. I looked up solutions found shopify and built a better looking store in 2 days than it took a supposed professional months to do. Bear in mine the designer was going to charge me several thousand dollars to build my store and I got it done for practically nothing. It’s easy to run, work the backend and keep track of stocks and so far no problems whatsoever. 5/5

I used shopify for my online store for 2 years and was becoming frustrated with errors in the billing. I moved to another service and although they are not perfect I’m seeing a big improvement and it’s a lower cost. Shopify are great if you’re not doing anything complex but it gets expensive fast if you want all the functionality you see on the big sites.

Shopify is good but watch out for breaking their terms as I found out the hard way with a dropshipping store I set up and lost my work when they closed it down. My other store where I make and sell MY OWN product is perfect so I cannot fault them for what was my own mistake, I just wish I’d had more of a chance to make amends

Expensive, bloated and set up to get maximum money out of their clients. Watch for all these gurus saying it’s the best thing since sliced bread they all get a nice kickback when you sign up. You want to OWN your store, not rent it. oh and did I mention they can delete your store just like that and you have literally no comeback?

Good service, works well for many but for me it was just too expensive by the time I added all the extra modules AND took a 3% hit through every sale. If I’d kept at it and kept expanding Id soon feel tied to Shopify which made me nervous tying my success to a single service vendor. I’ve since transferred my store to wordpress and woocommerce which is less easy to use at the start for sure but in the end I have full control.

I ran a shop on Etsy a while selling my jewelry but wasn’t happy with functionality and fees so a friend suggested a move to Shopify. It’s a learning curve but not too difficult to be impossible and there are lots of videos and tutorials available. I’m much more in control of the look and feel of my store now and think it’s running better now especially being able to upsell and cross-sell other items. Profitability is much the same but I can handle greater volume and my site looks kick-ass good.

easy to set up but I had nothing but problems once the orders started coming in with customers orders not showing up. I only discovered this when 3 friends ordered and asked what was happening with their purchases and I checked but nothing was showing. Support staff were less than amazing and after 2 months of trying and trying with only intermittent success I moved to another platform. I’ve since been fine so it’s wholly down to a glitch in shopify system

true story I miss-typed Spotify and found Shopify which I though looked interesting and took the free trial. This was 3 years ago and I now run 3 shops in the pet niche and left my job 18 months ago. Very good service with excellent support from knowledgeable team.

Shopify is the best ecomm solution I’ve tried and I’ve tried them all from woocommerce to Magento and everything in between. It seems expensive if you add all the extra functions you need to make a great store but it’s worth it for the reliability speed and everything it can do. Hooked up to a print on demand service and some good Facebook ads and I’m clearing between $18-22k per month. Like I say it SEEMs expensive and if I didn’t have a good system in place it would be, but that’s exactly what Shopify allows for…. great interconnected semi-automated systems for profit

Wholesale Ted and Sarah Crisp got me interested in Shopify and I am now running a dropshipping business with AliExpress. Made my first $1000 profit this month and I know I can scale it to big things. There’s so much available online to help and the Shopify team are also very helpful when I had some issues integrating automation.

Why would anyone pay $100 or more a month for Shopify when Woocommerce on WordPress is free and can make the same looking store? It makes no sense
